“‘In our nation’s 246-year history there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.’”

That’s former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney talking about Donald Trump in a campaign ad for his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, who is up for re-election in Wyoming. Both Cheneys, along with Trump, are Republicans.

And that the ad will be airing on Fox News programs including “Fox & Friends” and “Hannity,” a Cheney spokesperson told CNN.

“It’s important not only for Fox News viewers, but for the network’s hosts and top executives, to hear former Vice President Cheney’s warning about the ongoing danger Donald Trump and his lies post to our constitutional republic,” said Jeremy Adler, a spokesperson for the Liz Cheney campaign.

According to a 2020 poll from The Economist/YouGov, Republicans say Fox News is their most trusted major television news organization, while Democrats say CNN is their most trusted news source on TV.

In the campaign spot entitled “He Knows It,” Dick Cheney says that Trump “tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”

The viral video shows the former two-term vice president, who also served as the defense secretary under President George H.W. Bush, praising his daughter’s role as vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee hearings. The bipartisan House committee has been investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and presenting evidence that Trump and his supporters knew that he lost the 2020 election but went on to inspire the riot at the Capitol complex as Congress was meeting to certify Democrat Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

“He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and, deep down, I think most Republicans know it,” Dick Cheney says in the ad.

“A real man,” Cheney says, “would never lie to his supporters.”

Watch the ad here:

Dick Cheney, vice president under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, toed the party line and supported Trump’s 2016 presidential bid once Trump became the GOP’s nominee and reportedly went on to appear at a high-dollar Trump fundraiser in 2019, has had a change of heart.

“There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office,” her father says in the ad of Liz Cheney, drawing a contrast with “so many in our party” whom he characterizes as “too scared” to honor their oaths of office.

Liz Cheney has represented Wyoming’s lone House district since 2017. But she’s facing a GOP primary challenge from the Trump-backed Harriet Hageman in November. Hageman held a 22-point lead over Cheney in a Casper Star-Tribune poll in July.

A group of prominent conservatives released a 72-page report that same month debunking Trump’s claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. The group concluded Trump had “failed to produce substantive evidence.”
