Let’s face it: The NFT space moves really fast. Considering how quickly things can change in the metaverse, a week in NFTs might as well be a month IRL.

Don’t get us wrong — the merrier, the more people onboarded into the space. But because of the constant influx of great art and ideas, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the news, launches, and general happenings.

Well, you can put the days of endless Twitter and Discord scrolling behind you as we pull together a weekly list of upcoming NFT drops you don’t want to miss. Here’s what to look out for this week.

William Mapan: Distance

Who: Artist William Mapan and Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

What: 250 pieces, Mapan: Distance, is Vol. 5 of the Remembrance of Things Future initiative, in which pioneering digital artists experimenting on the blockchain are invited to make new works in response to objects in the LACMA’s museum’s permanent collection.

When: September 12

Where: Cactoid Labs Website

Why: Known for his painterly and textured digital creations, Mapan is an artist, coder and professor of Interactive and Creative Design at Paris’s preeminent animation school, Gobelins. With Distance, a series of generative computational artworks created in JavaScript, Mapan piles quadrate blocks of color atop each other in grids that teeter, slide and shift, suggesting aerial landscapes painted on thick and grainy watercolor paper with Paul Klee’s work as inspiration.

— OrangeHare (@OrangeHare_io) September 7, 2023

Who: Photographer Andreas Sterzing

What: 7 rare Artist Basquiat photographs, 77 editions each

When: September 12

Where: Orange Hare/Opensea

Why: Portraits of Jean-Michel Basquiat were taken in 1986 at Sterzing’s studio on Great Jones Street in New York, on an assignment for a German art magazine to illustrate a profile of the artist at his studio. There were various other people in the studio at the time, but we had a good connection. The session was very successful, resulting in a multitude of poses in different locations around the studio. The Basquiat portraits were shot on 35mm colour slide film and some of the slides were scanned.
